The project is getting underway in April and is scheduled to be completed by the summer of 2012. The New York City Department of Design and Construction (DDC) has announced that beginning the week of April 18th reconstruction work will begin on Unionport Road from East Tremont to Metropolitan Oval. The work will continue Monday through Friday from 7:00 AM to 6:00 PM. Follow the Center Island Renovation link above to learn more about the project and read the latest notices from DDC. Latest Notice: May 11, 2011 A Blood Drive sponsored by Parkchester South Condominium was held on Friday, April 8th from 10:00 AM to 4:00 PM in front of the Post Office on West Avenue. A mobile unit with professional staff from the New York Blood Center was on site. The New York Blood Center has been especially in need of rare blood types and markers for transfusions of those with similar types and markers. These blood types and markers are inherited by our parents. Parkchester has a very diverse population representing races and ethnic groups from all over the world making the likelihood of finding these rare types and markers more likely in our population. We thus strongly urge you to donate blood during our next drive planned for later this year as you may be one of those individuals able to assist someone in need of rare blood. For more information on this topic and blood types follow this link: New York Blood Center Residents with parking permits from the Public Safety office at 2000 East Tremont Avenue will find additional parking on the left side of Parkchester Road (behind the theater) at all hours - observe the parking signs. Other resident parking includes the area behind the Post Office and commercial spaces off of Wood Road (evening and weekends only) as well as designated spaces on Maple, Sycamore, and Linden Drives (anytime). All parking is on a first come-first served basis. Paid parking operated by Central Parking Systems of New York is available at the Tremont, Archer and Unionport Garages. by Margaret Walsh, President of the Board The Condominium’s own insurance covers the structure and common elements but not the interior of units, personal possessions or fixtures. If the damage to common elements is caused by negligence of the resident, the resident is responsible for the costs of repairs. In contrast, a fire in an apartment where the owner did have insurance, the insurance company quickly paid for repairs to the apartment and the common element damage and the apartment were livable in a short time. Apartment insurance is inestimable and can cost less than $250 a year.
